Joni’s Memory-Inspired Art

Making and using art as a form of self-expression is something that Joni is very passionate about. She often uses her work as an art therapist and her personal experiences as a source of inspiration for her art.

Joni's colourful pieces typically include bits of paper ephemera such as maps, sheet music, or book pages, and added metal leafing. She often finishes a piece by adding handwritten song lyrics to the painting. Music is deeply tied to memory-making, and by adding a song to a painting, it becomes its own sort of diary record.

When not painting, Joni can often be found riding her bike, gardening, or out wandering the forest and hills of Canada's west coast with her canine
