Solace Art Studio

Johanne Hémond is originally from Montréal but has been a Victoria resident for over twenty years. She finds inspiration in the environment that surrounds her.

"My artwork is an outward projection of my internal landscapes. It reflects the range of emotional textures that I bring to my world. My landscape work starts with a base that builds into lines and thick layers. Drips, splatters, wiped surfaces are all part of the process. Recently, with the Hortus Obscura series, I take inspiration from my garden and my indoor plants. The process in this study is one of letting go by blocking parts of a 'completed painting’. It requires courage and is a good analogy to life."
