Verlune

Tour Location: Stop 16 - 1157 Bewdley Avenue

Artist Bio

Verlune is an emerging visual artist. So far her works include oils on laminated canvas, oils on wood, and sculpture. Her style is surrealist and draws upon symbols of great beauty and significance to her; healing trauma and the interconnectedness of the living world.

Verlune grew up in a variety of places; at times in small fishing villages or squat communities on the west coast, at times in eastern metropoles like Montreal or Toronto.  Having spent a great deal of her life roaming Canada coast to coast, she draws inspiration from the landscapes and people she has encountered along the way. These shifting worlds and long periods of contemplation shaped her outlook into perpetual motion. Travels overseas compelled her into further thought and sensation. Her art is intuitive and auto-didactic, not being formed in any school of thought or technique. This freedom from a conventional arts background gives her an autonomous and marginal perspective.

Verlune’s work embodies her concerns for feminine representation, the state of ecology worldwide, and the absence of true reconciliation and pride for indigenous cultures in this country and abroad.
