The Esquimalt Family Map is a collaborative craft created and facilitated by the Esquimalt Community Arts Hub, in partnership with the Esquimalt Rec Centre’s Family Day event. During the event, families — born with and made — will have the opportunity to work together on creating construction-paper representations of their homes and pin them to a large map of Esquimalt. As more people add to the map, it will grow and evolve throughout the event, resulting in a colourful, tangible representation of all the families that make up our community!
To add to the fun, the Rec Centre will be running a free pancake breakfast, family swim and skate events, and a bouncy house!
When: February 20th, 2023, 9:00am - 1:00pm
Where: Esquimalt Recreation Centre, 527 Fraser St
Accessibility: all-ages and abilities. (ECAH staff and volunteers will be available at all times to help with the craft house creation)
Take-Home: We will also offer a take-home option for those exercising social distancing or with accessibility concerns. Those interested can pick up their craft supplies and an instruction sheet during the event, do the activity at home, and bring their finished house to the centre to be added to the map.
The map will be on display at the Rec Centre for a couple weeks for community members to view and enjoy! Please come out and have a fun day with your Esquimalt community!
The Province of British Columbia has provided ECAH with a grant that will be supporting this free, community Family Day activity. To learn more visit: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/governments/celebrating-british-columbia/bc-family-day
