Watercolour Workshop | Florals - Segmentation

We are pleased to offer watercolour workshops by Dixie MacUisdin at ECAH! Dixie loves paint, landscape, and colour. She is a versatile artist  working in watercolours, acrylics, and alcohol inks. She has a BFA in painting and photography. Learn more about Dixie on her website.

Course Description | Florals - Segmentation

This class is suitable for those with some watercolour experience or beginners who would like to learn a new technique. Using beautiful and vibrant florals as source material, you will learn about segmentation: the practice of contrasting hard edges with flowing colours.

Fees & Options

  • Members*: $20.00 per person

  • Non-Members: $25.00 per person

  • Supply rental (optional): $5.30 per person

Required Supplies

  • Tube watercolour paint in yellow, red, and blue, (I suggest a medium yellow, magenta, and phthalo blue) or bring what you have

  • Watercolour brushes in assorted sizes, rounds and flats

  • Watercolour paper: 140 lbs. cold press (cut to ¼ or 1/8 sheet size)

  • Palette – round white plastic palette with large wells for mixing

  • Gatorfoam board or wood board to support paper, quarter sheet size

  • Old towel

  • 2 plastic containers for water

  • Eyedropper

  • Nylon craft brushes for mixing

  • Masking tape

  • Pencil (HB or 1H) and eraser

  • Scrap paper for testing colours

  • Subject matter ideas – photos or sketches

Optional Supplies

  • Hair dryer

  • Apron/paint shirt

COVID-19 Safety Measures

  • All students must pre-register, no drop-ins will be permitted

  • Students must wear a mask at all times inside ECAH and during the course

  • Hand sanitizer will be provided upon entry

  • Desks have been sanitized with an alcohol-based solution before class

  • Desks must be sanitized after each class

  • Students are seated 6’ apart (unless they are in the same social pod)

  • We ask that all students and visitors to ECAH do their best to social distance at all times

Accessibility

  • There are two easy-access parking spots directly in front of 901 Esquimalt Road. Please leave these spots for those with mobility issues.

  • Our washroom can accommodate a wheelchair or other mobility device, and is gender-neutral.

  • Our tables are 5’ long and can be moved as needed. There are no steps into the building.

  • Our doors are not currently automated - but this is a future project we’re working on.

  • If you have concerns about visiting, please contact us and we can arrange a walk-through with you.
