Meet the Film Director and Facilitator | Simone Blais
Simone Blais is an emerging artist under 25. She began her career in the arts at the age of 8 as a nationally competitive dancer. After studying contemporary, jazz, and traditional Métis style jigging, she developed a passion for inclusion and accessibility in the dance community, especially for Black people. Simone holds a degree in Gender Studies and Indigenous Studies, and brings an energy that is equally critical and loving to each workshop she hosts. Dance Like Everybody's Watching is her film debut.
Film Description | Dance Like Everybody’s Watching
Follow three Black dancers in Victoria, BC as they expose their worlds of flamenco, hiphop, and dancehall. While the dancers grapple with racism, tokenism, and stereotypes, we are reminded that dance is always political. This film deals with themes of cultural appropriation in dance and is uniquely a BC production. 100% of the production, cast and crew are Victoria, BC based.
